Alexander Dane

Alex Dane is a senior manager for Clean Energy Innovation & Partnerships in the U.S. Energy Program. He leads programs that drive decarbonization and the just energy transition forward, partnering with leaders across city, state federal governments, utilities and the private sector. He helps manage the Renewables Accelerator, a joint WRI/RMI team supporting cities participating in the American Cities Climate Challenge, sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Alex consults directly with city leaders at key decision-points in clean energy procurement and utility engagement processes. Over the past three years, his team has advanced 830 MW of new renewable energy projects with city partners. Alex leads new directions in U.S. Energy’s portfolio as well, including energy resilience, innovative energy finance and equitable clean energy design. This work includes a project funded by the Leon Lowenstein Foundation, seeking to expand the opportunity for low income households to participate and benefit from community solar programs across the U.S. Prior to joining WRI, Alex was a senior consultant at Spark Policy Institute and a Technical Project Leader with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. While at NREL, Alex oversaw the management of a number of DOE sponsored technical assistance programs supporting states, cities and tribes advance renewable energy projects. He served on detail for NREL in New York’s Joint Field Office following Hurricane Sandy, integrating clean energy strategies into disaster recovery. Internationally, he developed the subnational technical assistance service offering for the Clean Energy Solution Center, sponsored by the State Department. He holds a master's degree in urban and regional planning and a master’s of public administration from the University of Colorado. He holds an undergraduate degree in environmental studies from Indiana University. Alex lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and two children. He enjoys the outdoors and making the most of Colorado’s sunshine alongside his family.
