Claudia Pilcher
Claudia Pilcher joined Scholastic in 2022 as its first full-time sustainability employee. She prepared the publisher for multiple international regulatory frameworks, establishing governance protocols that prevented over $1 million in non-compliance penalties.
In 2023, Pilcher directed Scholastic’s inaugural greenhouse gas inventory across more than 70 facilities, enabling the publisher to anticipate climate change mitigation strategies and shift from reactive compliance to a board-ready climate strategy. She also helped procure the first renewable energy for Scholastic’s U.S.-owned operations and debuted a program to encourage its top-spend vendors to reduce their emissions and increase low-carbon alternative materials for book products.
Within the publishing industry, Pilcher co-founded climate-related working groups for the Book Industry Study Group and Association of American Publishers.
