Nandin Natsagdorj owns the work of turning end-of-life waste into recovered value through critical materials recovery and battery recovery initiatives for Amazon Robotics.
Growing up Mongolian, in a culture deeply connected to nature yet shaped by a mining-dependent economy, is what drew her to recovery and reuse initiatives.
Between 2024 and 2026, she transformed how one of the world’s largest mobile robotic fleets manages end-of-life equipment, turning industrial disposal waste into closed-loop feedstock. Retired motors yield recovered rare earth magnets, which are routed back into new production. She is also piloting a first-of-its-kind program to repurpose retired batteries into second-life energy storage.
These efforts reduced Amazon Robotics’ critical material carbon intensity by over 45 percent and built a domestic supply chain immune to foreign export controls — shifting end-of-life from a cost center to a value driver. She also leads supplier decarbonization with nearly a third of the division’s top industrial suppliers committed to emissions reduction.
