Olivia Spaulding
Olivia Spaulding leads consumer behavior and market activation programs at the Center for the Circular Economy, part of investment firm Closed Loop Partners. In this role, and earlier ones at Accenture and TerraCycle’s Loop initiative, she has designed single-use waste-reduction initiatives for some of the world’s largest retailers: CVS Health, Kroger and Target.
Starting in 2025, Spaulding created and led the implementation of the Break Up with Single-Use Bags campaign in Southern California, reaching more than 10 million people at 1,300 stores.
Spaulding led a holistic research process encompassing hundreds of millions of anonymized retailer transaction records, surveys, interviews, intercepts and field observations. That system identified approaches that reduced single-use bag usage by up to 50 percent. Those findings are being included in an open-source toolkit that will be used for the Center’s upcoming consumer campaign in the Chicago area, where more than 500 stores have committed to participate.
