Avis Europe Climate Change Program

Car rental company Avis Europe has worked with Future Forests, a U.K.-based climate change consulting company, to develop a carbon assessment for its business. Avis used the assessment to get a baseline of GHG emissions and create GHG emissions reductions goals. The goals and progress on goals are integrated into the company’s CSR reports. In addition to public reporting, Avis Europe also positions it climate change programs at the point of sale, giving customers the option of purchasing carbon offset for their rentals. Avis also places climate change pamphlets in its rental offices.

The company’s other climate change programs include the following:

• All offices in the U.K. — including rental offices and the head office — are carbon neutral.
• One tree has been dedicated to every car in the Avis fleet — at the end of 2003, Avis had planted 140,000 saplings
• Between 2000 and 2003, the company offset 41,500 tons of CO2 through forestry. In 2004, the company offset 12,000 tons of CO2.
