Beyond the Smart Meter

Feedback gadgets alone are unlikely to maximize energy savings, says a new report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
The report, “Advanced Metering Initiatives and Residential Feedback Programs: A Meta-Review for Household Electricity-Saving Opportunities,” is based on research that includes reviews of 57 residential sector feedback programs between 1974 and 2010.
The study looks at the development of smart meter initiatives and feedback strategies that can influence program success and broader adoption.
The report can be viewed with registration, but without a fee, at aceee.org/pubs/e105.htm. Coverage of the report can also be found at GreenBiz.com.
