Creating a Culture: How Campuses Are Taking the Lead
This brief report discusses how universities (students, faculty, and staff) are increasingly incorporating sustainability principles and practices and creating sustainability programs on their campuses. As highlighted in the article, these initiatives are having a lasting influence on curriculum design, purchasing decisions, building design, and campus culture. And the effect of these on campus efforts is reverberating to surrounding communities. Several universities are highlighted whose sustainability efforts have proven exemplary and include integration of sustainability into the curriculum, green building design, and efforts that stoke the economy of the surrounding communities. The work on sustainability of leaders on these campuses is increasingly being integrated and steadily becoming accepted as smart business.
