Development of Novel Applications for Using Recycled Rubber in Thermoplastics
This study, conducted in 2000, examines opportunities to develop new markets for recycled scrap rubber as rubber production and use rise in the U.S. With a focus on blending recycled rubber with thermoplastics, such as polypropylene, it discusses the properties and costs of a variety of rubber blends that would increase the demand for scrap rubber. Detailed descriptions of experiments with a variety of rubber blends are meant to guide manufacturers in selecting materials and techniques for using recycled rubber in their products. For newcomers to the field, the guide provides analyses of industry infrastructure and recycling markets for scrap tires.
