Ecosystems and Human Well-being: Opportunities and Challenges for Business and Industry

The report is the result of a four-year international scientific assessment of the condition of earth’s ecosystems; potential impacts of changes to ecosystems on their ability to meet human needs; and policies, technologies, and tools needed to improve ecosystem management. It concluded that 15 out of 24 of the ecosystem services it studied are being degraded or used unsustainably, while only three of the ecosystem services have been enhanced in the past 50 years. This document appends the original work with an assessment of the study’s impacts on both small and large businesses throughout the industrial and developing world. It is one of the first studies to link the fate of the earth’s ecosystems with companies’ bottom lines.
