Energy Use in the Steel Industry
The U.S. steel industry has changed greatly since 1950, especially in the area of energy efficiency. This report, prepared by the U.S. EPA’s Office of Industrial Technologies in 2000, provides a historical perspective on energy use in the steel industry. It explains how past reductions in energy consumption were achieved and offers guidance for future initiatives. It also gives estimates of the consumption levels that represent exemplary energy-efficient practices, using data from 1998. This report will prove helpful to environmental managers for background information, but it is not the place to look for practical solutions.
