Environmentally Preferable Paints: Minimize Harm, Maximize Savings
This report, written in 1999, summarizes a study conducted by Aberdeen Proving Ground on 565 architectural and anticorrosive latex paints. Well organized and clearly written, this report provides a rare opportunity to read in depth about the testing methods used to develop a list of environmentally preferable paints — many of which cost an average of $1.76 per gallon less than conventional paints. Learn how APG evaluated the content of heavy metals, dangerous chemicals, and VOC levels using guidelines established by the environmental-standards organization Green Seal. An appendix includes a list of the paints determined by this study to have the least environmental impact.
