Google’s Green Data Center Case Study

This white paper from Google walks through how the company redesigned five of its smaller data centers to improve energy efficiency.
Through the following seven steps: Google’s engineers were able to cut PUE by one-third or more in its data centers, and achieved short returns on investment, on the order of 6-8 months per project.
1. Added temperature monitoring
2. Optimized air vent tiles
3. Increased temperature and relative humidity settings on CRACs
4. Blocked off the ends of cold aisles with curtains
5. Put blanking plates and side panels to block cold air passing through empty rack spaces
6. Added 48″ extensions to all CRAC air returns
7. Added a new CRAC controller
