Mobility 2001: World Mobility at the End of the Twentieth Century and Its Sustainability
Can auto makers and oil companies pave the way for “sustainable mobility”? This report describes the ways in which some of the world’s largest industrial companies are taking aim at this apparent oxymoron by studying the role of automobiles and other transportation systems on the environmental and social well-being of nations and cultures. The report, from the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, was supported by BP, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Michelin, Norsk Hydro, Renault, Shell, Toyota, and Volkswagen. The study is the first phase of a three-year effort to develop a global vision of sustainable mobility for 2030 including pathways to get there.
