Pathways to 2050 — Energy & Climate Change
Building on WBCSD’s 2004 Facts and Trends to 2050: Energy and Climate Change, this December 2005 report provides a more detailed overview of potential pathways toward a stabilization of CO2 emissions by 2050. The report identifies five principal “megatrends” that can each make a substantial impact: power generation, industry and manufacturing, mobility, buildings, and consumer choices.
The report suggests that carbon-free energy sources such as nuclear power will need to grow together with alternative sources such as hydropower, wind, geothermal, wave and tidal power. It also refers to the need of widespread deployment of carbon capture and storage.
