Safe Climate, Sound Business
In 1998, General Motors, Monsanto, and British Petroleum formed a collaboration with the World Resources Institute to pursue an action agenda on climate change. Dubbed “Safe Climate, Sound Business,” their report sets forth the three companies’ climate change agendas and offers action steps for businesses, including:
- Measure, track, and openly report greenhouse gas emissions
- Seize near-term opportunities to reduce and sequester GHG emissions
- Develop new cost-effective technologies, products, and business ventures for minimizing emissions
- Include global climate considerations in new investment decisions
- Educate employees, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders
- Participate in climate change debate and policy formation
