Scrap Tire Use/Disposal Study
Based on the results of a survey conducted in 1998, this report examines “current” conditions, progress, and problems within the scrap-tire industry. It finds that markets for scrap tires are consuming about 66% of the 270 million newly generated scrap tires, while retreading practices and the used-tire market are also helping to keep tires out of landfills. The report summarizes the major uses of scrap tires, including: tire-derived fuel, rubber-modified asphalt, and cut, stamped, and punched rubber products. Members of the tire industry will find this publication to be a thorough primer on the market for scrap tires and opportunities to expand it.
