Stepping Forward: Corporate Sustainability Reporting in Canada
This report is the result of a survey of corporate sustainability reporting practices in Canada, conducted in the summer of 2001. The survey included 35 reports representing nine sectors — including mining, chemicals, finance, information technology, and oil and gas — and assessed each company’s coverage of such topics as stakeholder relations, environmental performance, economic performance, and social performance. The report finds that the trend to address social and environmental performance in corporate reports is growing, but there is room for improvement. Brief case studies that highlight best practices appear throughout the report. Also find suggestions for enhancing the quality and quantity of corporate reporting in Canada.
