Sustainable Business Practices: Managing Risk and Opportunity
Are American companies fully aware of the risks and liabilities they face if they fall short in satisfying new standards of business, which demand that companies address sustainability? To find out, PriceWaterhouseCoopers surveyed 140 large, U.S.-based companies in mid-2002. The single most important discovery: Respondents are aware that the public now holds them accountable for their environmental, social, and economic impacts, but less than 30% have programs to systematically identify and evaluate these sustainability related risks.
