Sustainable Consumption and Production: Strategies for Accelerating Positive Change
The concept of “sustainable consumption and production” has been gaining currency in recent years, as organizations ranging from the United Nations Environment Program to the World Business Council on Sustainable Development have tried to tackle this complex and meaty topic. The issue: How to inform and incentivize consumers, companies, regulators, and others to reduce the environmental impacts from sourcing, manufacturing, using, and disposing of goods and services.
This guide aims to help grantmakers — from companies, government agencies, and foundations — strategically target their financial resources in a more-effective fashion. At the heart of the publication are five grantmaking areas that address three “overriding” goals:
- To significantly decrease demand for resources and materials that are in jeopardy or are causing catastrophic impacts.
- To increase demand for sustainable products and services, thereby maintaining economic progress.
- To pressure and support companies to speedily and substantively change their destructive ways.
