Syngenta Crop Protection Inc. Entry into Biofuels Market
Agriculture company Syngenta is tapping a market demand for agricultural products that could fuel industries of the 21st century. Renewable fuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel that are made from corn and soybean, when they are used to replace fossil fuels represent a step toward environmental sustainability. Syngenta is bringing its research to bear on developing a breed of corn that contains an enzyme important to the ethanol production process. The technology is still two to three years from being marketable, but it demonstrates the commitment companies are willing to make in order to participate in the renewable energy market. In the U.K., Syngenta is partnering with Springdale Energy and Smartest Energy to build at 1MW bioelectricity plant that will be fueled by rapeseed oil.
