Tetra Pak Colombia Sustainable Waste Management
Tetra Pak Colombia takes into account its environmental, social and economic impacts for the sustainable use of post-manufacturing and post-consumption packages.
In one process, 75% of the large cellulous pulp contained in these packages is used to produce solid fiber gray cardboard from which other goods, such as book-covers or agendas can be manufactured. Cartonal Ltda is implementing this process.
In another process, the remaining 25% of the large cellulous pulp, which consists of plastic, aluminium and post-manufacturing waste, is used to produce synthetic wood to manufacture furniture, or for other applications in the construction industry. Ecoplak – Ri.Orion is implementing this process.
Thanks to both processes, 73 direct jobs have been created. Moreover, the plants have installed capacity to recover up to 38% of Colombia’s solid waste, thereby substantially minimizing its environmental impact. These examples demonstrate Tetra Pak Colombia’s commitment to sustainable development.
