USAID Report to Congress on Tropical Forests
This report describes the USAID programs and projects through 2003 related to the Foreign Assistance Act, which directed USAID to undertake training, research, and other actions which lead to sustainable and more environmentally sound practices for timber harvesting, removal, and processing, including reforestation, soil conservation, and other activities to rehabilitate degraded forest lands. The report provides a good overview of the challenges of managing forest resources internationally, including the implications for greenhouse gas emissions and sinks. Specific topics of interest include public/private partnerships, illegal logging, markets for ecosystem services, and poverty alleviation.
