A.J. Simon is the Director of the Industrial Decarbonization practice at Carbon Direct. Carbon Direct is a science-led organization that translates market and technical expertise into actionable strategies for client organizations seeking deep and permanent decarbonization. The ten scientists and engineers in the Industrial Decarbonization practice focus on the chemical, physical, and mechanical mechanisms of carbon management and removal. They deliver life cycle assessment, technoeconomic analysis, technology diligence, market positioning, project review, and assurance services, often through interdisciplinary collaboration with other practices across Carbon Direct.
A.J. is a mechanical engineer and energy systems expert, whose passion for efficiency and insatiable curiosity has led to a 25 year career in clean energy. Prior to joining Carbon Direct in 2022, he spent 14 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in energy and climate research, including a 1-year special assignment at the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters in Washington DC. Prior to LLNL, he worked for 5 years at Stanford University’s Global Climate and Energy Project managing nearly $200 million in low-carbon research grants, and before that, 2 years at General Electric’s Global Research Center developing low-emissions technologies for gas turbines and diesel engines.
