Amanda Hurowitz is a Senior Director at Mighty Earth. She coordinates the Forest Commodities team which focuses on protecting forests and communities throughout Asia and Africa. She oversees Mighty Earth’s work on commodities including transition minerals, palm oil, rubber, cocoa, pulp and paper, and biomass.
Amanda has run campaigns to protect great ape habitat, stop the world’s largest deforestation project, clean up the sourcing policies of the recreational vehicle industry, transform the cocoa industry by protecting forests and driving a shift to sustainable agroforestry practices, and ensure that Asian overseas investments drive climate action.
She previously worked as a Senior Director at Waxman Strategies, where she led the firm’s work on bioenergy policy, US public lands, and pandemic prevention through conservation strategies, and worked with an array of clients on building decarbonization, including through the Inflation Reduction Act. Prior to becoming a full-time environmental advocate, Amanda was a leader in the green schools movement and taught US history and Anthropology at one of the nation’s top high schools.
