Christy Walsh is the Federal Markets Director for the Sustainable FERC Project at the Natural Resources Defense Council. She focuses on improving wholesale power markets and transmission systems to reliably and affordably decarbonize the power sector. Christy advocates on behalf of the Sustainable FERC Project and other environmental groups before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Department of Energy, and regional transmission organizations. She is also on the Board of Directors of Americans for a Clean Energy Grid, working to expand, integrate and modernize the high-voltage transmission system. Prior to joining NRDC, she spent 18 years at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where she held senior executive positions including leading the Division of Policy Development and as Deputy General Counsel. She was also a legal and policy advisor to FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff. Christy was a lead FERC staffer on important electric and gas policy issues during her time at the Commission, where she worked closely with FERC leadership in developing many policy reforms. Christy holds a JD from UT Austin School of Law and dual degrees in music and French from Texas Tech University
