Courtney Gallaher is the Director of Campus Sustainability at Northern Illinois University, leading initiatives in energy and water conservation, sustainable food systems, and natural area restoration. She collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to drive sustainability projects that further the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Courtney is dedicated to interdisciplinary solutions that address complex environmental and social challenges across the campus and beyond. As a trained human-environment geographer, her research and teaching address global issues in sustainable food systems, water management, and environmental justice, with a focus on urban agriculture, food security, and soil health in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before her current role, Courtney was an associate professor in the Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment and the Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at NIU.
