James Zhou is the Head of Energy Transition Infrastructure, China within the Alternatives team at HSBC Asset Management in Shanghai. James is responsible for managing the alternative investment China business and for overseeing the renewable energy investment activities in China. Prior to joining HSBC in November 2022, James worked as a Managing Director at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for leading the regional investment banking activities in the power, utilities & infrastructure sector. Previously, James was the Head of Infrastructure, China at Macquarie Capital in Shanghai, and before that, served as Director for the investment banking team at Evercore in Hong Kong. James brings over 18 years of experience in the power, utilities & infrastructure industry, with specific expertise in investments, mergers and Aacquisitions, project financing and debt restructuring. James started his career in PricewaterhouseCoopers in Auckland and Hong Kong. He received a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Finance from the University of Auckland. James is a CFA charterholder, a CA in Australia & New Zealand and a CPA in Hong Kong.
