John Ringer
Director of Project Finance and Environmental Markets
American Forest Foundation
John Ringer leads the Environmental Markets and Project Finance team at the American Forest Foundation, where he oversees the Family Forest Carbon Program’s carbon credit sales and early-stage project finance strategies. John has spent the past decade working in the voluntary carbon market and has helped catalyze high-quality nature based and engineered projects across five continents. John has overseen $100+ million in carbon credit transactions and project financing to these high-quality carbon projects, delivering positive climate impact and advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. At the American Forest Foundation, John has played a crucial role in growing the Family Forest Carbon Program, which has enrolled over 900 family forests and 120,000 acres across the US.
John holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of Vermont and an MBA from Champlain College. John lives in Northern Vermont with his wife, two daughters, and dog named Ollie. On the weekends they can be found mountain biking, skiing, or dressing up like the latest Disney characters. When John and his wife’s first daughter was born, they began an assisted natural regeneration project on part of their property, the trees they planted and those that naturally regenerated are now taller than John and sequestering carbon in his family’s backyard.
