Jorge Ahumada

Jorge Ahumada is the Co-Founder and Chief Conservation & Impact Officer of WildMon and Executive Director of Wildlife Insights. With a Ph.D. in Ecology, Jorge has over 17 years of experience leading complex projects in ecology, environmental management, and wildlife conservation. He has carved a niche in the areas of biodiversity monitoring, indicators, and the intersection of technology with conservation.

As an expert in his field, Jorge has an impressive publication record, with over 60 scientific papers – a third on wildlife ecology management. He’s also led multiple studies and complex analyses of protected area management, wildlife trade, climate change and other environmental fields.

Jorge has spent his career providing technical advice, building capacity, and sharing knowledge across a broad range of stakeholders, including high-level government officials, protected area managers, private sector leaders, local communities, and non-profit organizations. He has.engaged with policy makers in major international fora and building partnerships to tackle conservation challenges, implementing innovative global solutions, and achieving high-impact outcomes.

He was the driving force behind the TEAM network, a groundbreaking initiative that set benchmarks in ecological monitoring using camera traps and other biodiversity monitoring methods. Further advancing the sphere of conservation technology, Jorge played an instrumental role in the creation of Wildlife Insights, an innovative platform that streamlines the organization, sharing, and analysis of camera trap data.

While being extremely passionate about the environment, he excels in multicultural contexts and is an enthusiastic communicator who thrives on sharing science-based conservation approaches with non-technical audiences. His relentless commitment and visionary approach have made him a prominent voice in the global conservation community.
