Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia on Private Sector Affairs
Juan is a lawyer with a robust academic background and practical experience in various fields of Law and Behavioural Economics. His professional experience combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of economic, private sector and environmental issues. He is currently serving as the Advisor for Private Sector Affairs of the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia.
Throughout his career, Juan has contributed to prominent institutions, including serving as Co-Chair of the Technical Expert Group on Financial Reporting for the Convention on Biological Diversity (TEG-CBD), Judicial Advisor to a NAFTA panellist, Director for Access to Justice in English for QCGN and Policy Advisor to the MSS division of Global Affairs Canada, amongst others. In addition to his professional endeavours, he has served as an Officer in the reserve force of the Royal Canadian Navy, and has published articles on critical topics such as Natural Resource Development, Air Law, Due Diligence Requirements, and Environmental Law.
Juan holds an LL.B from Universidad de los Andes, a graduate degree in Tax Law from Universidad del Rosario, and a master’s degree in Comparative Law and a Ph.D. in Behavioral Economics and Climate Change from McGill University.
