Kristin Steiner is the Director of Sustainability Solutions at Republic Services, where she helps large, complex companies achieve their waste-related sustainability goals. In this role, she leads efforts to assess waste streams, develop tailored strategies, and oversee their implementation to optimize waste practices. Kristin began her career at Republic Services through the General Management Accelerated Program (GMAP). In 2019, she was promoted to General Manager, overseeing 130 employees, a fleet of 100+ vehicles, and the financial health of the business unit. She later became Director of Sustainability, where she led Republic’s ESG reporting, initiatives, and strategy.
Prior to Republic Services, Kristin was a licensed Civil Engineer and Project Manager in San Francisco and New York City, designing municipal infrastructure like roads, bike paths, and utilities. With LEED accreditation, she specialized in stormwater storage and reuse, advancing sustainable infrastructure development.
Kristin holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University and an MBA and a Master of Science (Environment & Sustainability) from the University of Michigan. A licensed Professional Engineer from 2009 to 2017 and a current TRUE Zero Waste Advisor, she brings a strong technical and managerial background to her current role. Kristin has since returned to her hometown of San Diego, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and their cherished Goldendoodle, Moose.
