Maressa Brennan
Senior Director, Regulatory Policy & Markets
Electra
Maressa Brennan is the Senior Director of Regulatory Policy & Markets at Electra, where she is helping shape the market for clean iron production. She leads the development and implementation of Electra’s environmental attribute certificate (EAC) strategy and supports the commercialization of the company’s patented low-temperature electrochemical-hydrometallurgical process, which transforms iron ore into high-purity clean iron.
Before joining Electra, Maressa served on the Portfolio Strategy team at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), where she helped advance major industrial decarbonization initiatives. Her work included leading the Decarbonizing Chemicals & Refining report for the Pathways to Commercial Liftoff initiative, designing the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub Demand-side Initiative, and coordinating engagement with the financial ecosystem to accelerate deployment of first-of-a-kind clean energy projects.
Previously, Maressa was Director of Innovative Finance at the Milken Institute, where she helped develop and execute the Institute’s Financial Innovations Labs to address market barriers and unlock capital for critical social and environmental priorities. She also led the Institute’s environmental sustainability content and programming. Before joining the Milken Institute, Maressa worked at Mark Asset Management, a boutique hedge fund in New York, and Russell Investments on the hedge fund research team.
Maressa holds an M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a B.A. from George Washington University.
