Dr. Marty Lail is Senior Director of Decarbonization Sciences at RTI International, where he leads strategy and execution for carbon capture and conversion initiatives. He manages cross-disciplinary teams of chemists and engineers advancing non-aqueous solvent technologies, including a 200-ton/day CO₂ capture demonstration with the U.S. Department of Energy and Technology Centre Mongstad in Norway. Dr. Lail has successfully negotiated commercial technology licenses, secured patents, and built partnerships that bridge research innovation with large-scale deployment. Since joining RTI in 2009, he has driven programs in energy, industrial decarbonization, and advanced materials, consistently aligning technical development with market impact. Earlier in his career, he held research positions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the University of California, Berkeley, and Bayer. Dr. Lail earned his Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from NC State University and dual B.A. degrees from UNC–Chapel Hill. He is recognized with RTI’s President’s Award (2022) and Highly Cited Author Award (2024).
