Shama Perveen

Shama leads the Ceres water program’s research efforts, building the business and scientific case for companies and investors to address water risk. Shama brings over two decades of experience and a rich technical water expertise to the program.

Previously, she served as a scientist at the Columbia Water Center at Columbia University in New York, where she conducted groundbreaking research on water issues and led multiple grants and initiatives. Shama subsequently took the reins as country director of the University’s nonprofit Water Center in India, designing innovative corporate water risk initiatives.

Shama has authored numerous publications and has taught at Columbia University in New York, University of Nevada Las Vegas, and University of South Carolina, Columbia. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Shama volunteers for Vibha, an education non-profit, and has earned the U.S. President’s Volunteering Service Medal for her outstanding contributions.
