Yuhau Lin
Head of Environmental Commodities, Americas
Morgan Stanley
Yuhau is the Head of Environmental Commodities for the Americas at Morgan Stanley. He has been trading, originating and structuring environmental commodities transactions since 2009. He got his start in the market at Noble Group, originating voluntary carbon offsets with the potential to be accepted into the California Cap and Trade compliance market as well as the proposed US Federal Cap and Trade program (i.e., “Waxman Markey”). From there he went to NRG, where he traded compliance and voluntary markets in Carbon (CCA and RGGI), Renewable Energy Credits (ERCOT, PJM, NEPOOL), NOx and SO2 (EPA CSAPR program), as well as various regional ERC products around the US. Alongside his trading and origination activities, Yuhau also has been deeply involved in a variety of development and financing activities for low / zero carbon power generation projects throughout his career. At both Noble and NRG he led valuation exercises for biomass and urban waste-to-energy projects. Later, while at NRG, he played a key role in the company’s strategy to expand into solar development, which ultimately led to the spinoff of NRG Yield Inc. – operating today as Clearway Energy. In late 2020 Yuhau joined the Morgan Stanley power and gas trading desk in New York, where he has led the effort to build out and expand the firm’s capabilities and product offerings in all things environmental commodities. At Morgan Stanley, he has continued to manage a diverse portfolio of activities including trading compliance markets, structuring voluntary – or “net-zero” – solutions for corporate clients, and working closely with the Firm’s Banking and Financing teams to help clients understand, value and access environmental commodities markets of all types.
