Ann Blake

Ann Blake is an independent consultant with 18 years of experience in toxics reduction strategies that includes creating criteria for environmentally preferable purchasing, ecolabels and product rating systems as well as local, national and international chemicals policy reform. Ann’s current clients include the City of San Francisco’s Department of Environment, UCLA Law’s Sustainable Technology and Policy Program (STPP), the International POPS Elimination Network, and the Blue-Green Alliance, a national strategic partnership between labor unions and environmental organizations. Past clients have included Good Guide, Women’s Voices for the Earth, the Electronics Takeback Coalition, the Breast Cancer Fund and the Safe Cosmetics Campaign. Ann served on the Board of WAGES, a non-profit that builds worker-owned green businesses that create healthy, dignified jobs for low-income women, from 2003 to 2011, and as Board Chair from 2004 to 2010. In 2009 Ann created a chemicals policy and green chemistry curriculum for UC Berkeley’s new professional certificate program in Green Chemistry, and is currently working on an alternatives assessment curriculum. She is a member of the Green Ribbon Science Panel created to advise California EPA on the implementation of California’s Green Chemistry Initiative. Prior to consulting, Ann worked for the California Environmental Protection Agency's Department of Toxic Substances Control as a hazardous waste inspector and Pollution Prevention Coordinator.  Ann Blake has a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and neural development from the University of Oregon.
