Anne Maassen

Anne Maassen is the global lead for the WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities and oversees related activities on urban transformation that aim to learn about what we can do to grow seeds of change and develop a community of urban change makers around progressive urban agendas. At WRI, Anne previously led WRI’s urban finance work on the Financing Sustainable Cities Initiative. Before joining WRI in 2015, Anne was a project design and evaluation specialist for a range of multilateral development banks and agencies and worked at the World Bank and the Climate Investment Funds. She has provided strategic advice to governments, multilaterals and non-profits, and has published and peer-reviewed studies on urban transformation for sustainability. Anne holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Durham University (UK), with a focus on urban sustainability and innovation, as well as a master's degree in environmental monitoring, modelling & management (King’s College London, UK) and a bachelor's degree in economics, politics and international studies (University of Warwick, UK).
