David Meyers

David Meyers is a serial entrepreneur and environmental finance expert with more than 25 years of experience in sustainability, business strategy and management, environmental economics, international conservation and development, environmental impact, training, education and research in ecology and evolution. A principal at Green Ant Advisors, he leads projects to finance nature conservation in Afghanistan, Haiti and elsewhere. He's part of a team supporting and expanding True Market Solutions’ innovative Sustainability Circles™ program. David teaches a short course called Business Models: Strategies from Ecology and Evolution at Columbia’s Earth Institute. David was the founding chief finance officer and chief operations officer for Mission Markets, a financial services company providing online marketplaces for Impact Investing and environmental assets. Previously, David also served as founder and CEO of Madagascar Bamboo, a triple-bottom-line bamboo-flooring manufacturer and the first company to produce industrially transformed bamboo products in Africa. David has spent well over a decade in Madagascar and has travelled to -- and worked in -- more than 37 countries. In Madagascar, he helped the country plan and execute a tripling of the area under conservation, establishing the Makira Conservation Area, a 370,000 hectare protected area using REDD+ methodology, and providing strategic and practical support to the government, the private sector, foundations, nonprofits and the parks service. He began his career conducting research on endangered primates and has written multiple scientific publications on this topic, including co-authoring the definitive guide to the lemurs. He is a member of the Conservation Finance Alliance and holds a doctorate in biological anthropology and anatomy from Duke University, as well as an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
