When La Quinta Inn & Suites made recent renovations at five hotels, it chose to replace its carpet with Cradle to Cradle certified, 25 percent recycled content carpet from Shaw Hospitality Group, which allowed La Quinta to recycle its old carpet through Shaw’s carpet reclamation program for free.
The renovations ended up sending 30 tons of carpet to Shaw Industries’ Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility, which breaks down carpets made with Type 6 nylon and turns it into brand new carpet without degrading the carpet’s quality or performance.
A Shaw recycling partner picked up the old carpet from the hotels being renovated in Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, and took it to the Evergreen facility in Augusta, Ga.
The facility is the largest post-consumer Type 6 nylon recycling location and it has handled more than 204 million pounds of carpet since Shaw acquired it in early 2007.
La Quinta replaced the old carpet with carpet made with Shaw’s Eco Solution Q nylon, which contains at least 25 percent recycled content and has been certified as a Cradle to Cradle product by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry.
