CATAN – New Energies: How Games Can Start Conversations

To accelerate community acceptance of climate solutions, we must open new and meaningful dialogues. One powerful vector for education and discussion is the medium of games.

The newest standalone release from CATAN – one of the world’s most recognizable board games – does just that. The game, called “CATAN – New Energies,” allows players to make choices, and experience the consequences, of the clean energy transition through play.

In this tutorial, the game’s creators, distributors, and allied experts share the vision behind the game, how it was manufactured and distributed with an eye to sustainability, as well as the psychology of games that make them a uniquely powerful medium for increasing hope and action for a better future.

After the discussion, participants will have the chance to play CATAN – New Energies together. If you’re lucky, you may end up with a copy of the game to take home.
