Are you looking for a creative way to advertise your business? How about using wind turbine blades to send your message? That may be possible thanks to a company called WePOWER, which earlier this week launched its Windvertising media platform.
The Windvertising platform enables advertisements to be placed on WePOWER’s PacWind turbines. Each of the turbine’s air foil blades reflect an image, and as the blades spin, the images appear to move— essentially creating an animated ad.

Energy from Windvertising-equipped turbines could also be used to power corresponding billboards.
WePOWER claims that “if the estimated 500,000 billboards that are currently found along US highways were to adopt the Windvertising(TM) branded media platform, these billboards, at an average wind speed of 10 miles per hour, would generate roughly 16.8 billion kWh of electricity. At this level they could power approximately 1.5 million homes and would reduce about 5.3 million tons of CO2 from being emitted into the air per year.”
Of course, wind turbine companies have to deal with enough complaints about their products’ size, noise, and environmental impact without having to worry about the presence of advertisements. I will be surprised if Windvertising can rise above consumer outcry.
