The Biden administration last week announced $371 million in grants to fund the acceleration of interstate transmission development. Twenty projects in 16 states were selected across two distinct categories: grants for siting and permitting; and grants for economic development. Four projects were selected for the siting and permitting grant, and 12 were selected for the economic development grant. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission received $4.5 million from the former to accelerate the permitting process for its PJM Regional Transmission Expand Plan across the state. The Virginia Department of Energy received $8.3 million from the grant for economic development to address the current lack of local workforce for the state’s clean energy sector.
