McGraw-Hill Construction has launched a new magazine dedicated to the growing market for environmentally responsible green buildings. GreenSource, The Magazine of Sustainable Design will present news, features, case studies of important projects, and green product information to more than 40,000 architects, interior designers, building owners, and members of the U.S. Green Building Council.

McGraw-Hill Construction editors will collaborate on GreenSource and the related Web site with editors from BuildingGreen, Inc. — an information company that provides accurate, unbiased green product information and policy analysis for building industry professionals and policy makers. BuildingGreen editors will assist with editorial content, green product information, and Web-specific content. BuildingGreen publishes Environmental Building News, GreenSpec Directory, which contains more than 2,000 green building products, and Green Building Products.

“The commercial green building market is expected to become a $10 to $20 billion industry within the next five years. Adding residential green construction brings the potential market up to $60 billion by 2010. Building professionals have a growing need for more information on green building products and projects, and building owners have a need to connect with architects, designers and builders who can help them build environmentally responsible buildings,” said James H. McGraw IV, group publisher at McGraw-Hill Construction. “Together with the credibility and resources of BuildingGreen, we can produce a magazine and online resources which will set the standard as the premier information source for the green building market.”

GreenSource will be under the editorial direction of Robert Ivy, FAIA, vice president, editorial director, and editor-in-chief of Architectural Record. In addition to content provided by BuildingGreen, editors and reporters from McGraw-Hill Construction’s Architectural Record and Engineering News-Record will contribute to both GreenSource and its affiliated Web site. The site’s focus will be on sustainability for the built environment and linked to McGraw-Hill Construction’s primary online portal, plus the sites for Architectural Record and Engineering New-Record, as well as BuildingGreen’s Web site.

“With articles about the latest trends and developments in green design and technology, interdisciplinary case studies, interviews with thought leaders and visionaries, updates on green building policy and case studies and practical tips, GreenSource will both inspire and inform, helping readers leverage green building to reach their environmental and economic goals,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO, and founding chair of USGBC.

For the past year, McGraw-Hill Construction, through its Research & Analytics group, has introduced its Green SmartMarket Report series, in addition to its bringing green to the McGraw-Hill Construction Network for both projects and products. These combined offerings provide the industry with the most comprehensive online Green resource/information of people, projects, and products available.

“BuildingGreen has built a reputation as the voice of cutting edge green thinking and design. We are excited to have the opportunity to work with McGraw-Hill Construction to bring our work to a wider audience of leading architects and engineers,” said Nadav Malin, vice president of BuildingGreen, Inc. and editor of Environmental Building News.

GreenSource will be published twice in 2006, premiering at the American Institute of Architects convention on June 8, and followed in October prior to the USGBC’s GreenBuild Conference and Expo held Nov. 15-17 in Denver. McGraw-Hill Construction will also produce the Conference and Expo Guide. Additional issues of GreenSource are expected to be added in 2007.
