In a move expected to strengthen an already formidable business in data centers, Schneider Electric has acquired Lee Technologies for an undisclosed sum.
Schneider, based in Rueil-Malmaison, France, announced its acquisition of Lee Technologies last week.
Founded in 1983 and based in Fairfax, Va., Lee Technologies started its business as a provider of uninterruptible power systems, air conditioning systems, generators and other mechanical and electrical support equipment for computer rooms.
The firm expanded its focus over the years to become a service provider specializing in data center infrastructure. The company designs, builds, operates, monitors and maintains the facilities by providing a range of services including consulting, site assessment, equipment specification and selection to integration, commissioning, facility operations staffing and round-the-clock proactive remote monitoring.
Lee Technology clients include Coca-Cola, Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Department of Defense, Time Warner, Verizon and Harris Corporation.
“Lee Technologies possesses a deep and intimate knowledge of both its customers’ needs and data center operations,” said Laurent Vernerey, executive vice president of Schneider Electric’s IT business, in a statement. “This unique combination of business and technical expertise and total lifecycle service will broaden our client base, extend our advanced service capabilities and enable us to provide our customers a totally ‘managed’ contract to meet their needs.”
Schneider Electric, which prides itself for having its power devices in 70 percent of the world’s buildings, also is a major supplier of power-control products and services for IT systems.
