DuPont has been recognized by the Coalition for Government Procurement for its overall commitment to the environment.

The Green Contractor Award is given annually to the government contractor that has made the strongest overall commitment to the environment by either offering environmentally friendly products and services or adhering to environmentally sound manufacturing and/or operating procedures.

The 2006 Green Contractor Award was presented as part of the Coalitional for Government Procurement (CGP) seventh annual Excellence in Partnership Awards program in Washington, D.C., which recognizes people and organizations from both the public and private sectors that have made significant strides in the promotion and use of Government Services Administration’s (GSA) Multiple Award Schedules Program.

“DuPont is focused on identifying sustainable solutions for our customers around the world, including government organizations. We believe what is good for business and our customers must also be good for the environment,” said Frank Pugliese, Jr., managing director, DuPont Government Business Development. “We are honored to receive this award in recognition of our corporate efforts to bring environmentally sound alternatives to our customers.”

DuPont is continually creating new ways for the U.S. Federal Government to access its industry-leading sustainable capabilities. For example, DuPont’s Environmental Waste Treatment Unit has made its technology, facilities and service expertise directly available to the government under GSA Schedules. Additionally, an increasing number of DuPont’s commercial products and planned refinements of existing products are becoming available to the government under GSA Schedules, competitively awarded vendor agreements or strategic partnerships with distributors and resellers already doing significant business with the U.S. Federal Government.

DuPont is among the world’s leaders in developing and commercializing renewable, bio-based materials; advanced biofuels; energy-efficient technologies; safety and protection products and services; and alternative energy sources. These include high-performance products such as: Bio-PDO(TM), which is made using corn as the raw material, as the key ingredient for DuPont(TM) Sorona(R) polymer used in carpeting, apparel, and other applications; Pioneer(R) seeds, which use advanced plant genetics to develop higher yield, higher quality crops; and personal protective apparel with DuPont(TM) Kevlar(R), Nomex(R) and Tyvek(R) for law enforcement personnel, firefighters and emergency responders.

DuPont – one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals nearly 20 years ago – has broadened its sustainability commitments beyond internal footprint reduction to include market-driven targets for revenue and research and development investment. The goals are tied directly to business growth, specifically to the development of safer and environmentally improved new products for DuPont’s key global markets.
