Energy management startup Hara Software Inc. has entered the market with a software-as-a-service corporate application that enables organizations to track their use of resources, energy efficiency and emissions systemwide — and take steps to reduce them.
Founded 18 months ago, the company based in Menlo Park stepped into the public eye this week by unveiling its product, Hara Environmental and Energy Management.
Hara has received $6 million in venture capital from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
In its announcement Monday, Hara said its application has been available on a subscription basis since January, and that its roster of more than a dozen clients includes the Coca-Cola Company and the neighboring city of Palo Alto.
The product, which consists of four modules (“discover,” “plan,” “act” and “innovate”), is a tool for monitoring and managing consumption of fossil fuels, water and electricity, fuels used in travel, waste and greenhouse gas emissions in facilities and across a company’s operations.
Public opinion rather than anticipation of cap-and-trade regulations is prompting businesses to account for their carbon footprints and become more efficient, according to research findings released yesterday by Groom Energy Solutions and Greentech Media.
The report that was jointly released by the two firms takes a look at enterprise carbon accounting software, a $10 million market that is expected to double annually in the coming years, according to a Groom Energy executive.
