Greener World Media, the publishers of GreenBiz.com®, GreenerBuildings.com and other websites focused on news and resources about the greening of mainstream business, announced today that Rob Watson has joined its editorial staff as executive editor of GreenerBuildings.com
The CEO of EcoTech International Group, Watson is often referred to as the “founding father” of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system and served as chairman of its national Steering Committee between 1994 and 2005. Watson continues to serve as a director of the U.S. Green Building Council, which administers LEED.
“In the world of green building, Rob is a true pioneer, the real deal,” says Joel Makower, Greener World Media’s chairman and executive editor. “He brings a deep reservoir of knowledge and networks in the global green building movement that will help GreenerBuildings.com further burnish its reputation as the leading resource in the greening of commercial buildings.”
As executive editor, Watson will help guide the growth of GreenerBuildings.com and its e-newsletter, GreenerBuildings News, the premier online media focusing exclusively on the greening of commercial and institutional real estate.
A pioneer of the modern green building movement for more than 20 years, Watson founded the EcoTech International Group to meet the fast-growing demand for green building technologies and services in China, India, and the U.S. As senior scientist and director of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s International Energy and Green Building programs from 1985 to 2006, Watson initiated path-breaking programs and projects in international sustainable building, utility, and transportation issues in a dozen countries.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Greener World Media, contributing to the dynamic offerings of Greenbuildings.com,” says newly appointed Executive Editor, Rob Watson. “I want to bring pragmatic content with a 360-degree view and interdisciplinary approach, based on my 25 years of international experience in transforming green building markets.”
In addition to Watson, Greener World Media’s roster of green building talent includes Editor-At-Large Christine Ervin, former president of the U.S. Green Building Council and former assistant secretary of energy under President Clinton.
“Greener World Media’s vision is to assemble the best minds in green business,” says Pete May, president and publisher. “We’re delighted to have Rob join with Christine and others we are assembling around Joel Makower and his editorial team, and excited to support the continued growth of GreenerBuildings.com.”
Launched in 2003, GreenerBuildings.com is the leading Web site for the greening of commercial and institutional buildings. Published by Greener World Media, GreenerBuildings.com addresses key environmental issues facing today’s architects, contractors, facilities and operations managers, and real estate and property management professionals and shows how greening operations can improve the bottom line.
