When I met and interviewed Ditto Hangers’ founder Gary Barker last year, one of the projects he was working on was recycled-paper hangers made especially for sports gear.

Those hangers, the Ditto Ziggurat Paper Hanger, are now making their appearance with the Adidas SLVR product line. The hangers are made with 100 percent recycled paperboard, compressed tightly to hold up to frequent use.

The hangers designed for Adidas are made wider at the shoulders by stacking smaller and smaller slices of paperboard, taking on the appearance of a topographical map when viewed straight on.

The recycled-content hangers compliment the concept behind many items in SLVR line, which includes reducing materials in clothing and making fashion that has a lower impact on the environment.

The Zero Waste Tee, for example, is cut from one piece of fabric, is put together in three steps and leaves no waste from production. The Six Piece Upper shoe is made with seven pieces (six upper pieces and the outsole) as opposed to the 25-30 that shoes are typically made of. The pieces are only stitched together; no glues are used. And, organic cotton makes up a small percentage of material in each of line’s cotton items.

The Ziggurat Paper Hanger, which also earned an Ecodesign Silver Award from the 2009 Spark Awards, made its debut in the SLVR concept store in New York and will also be featured in SLVR stores in Los Angeles and Miami as well as outside of the U.S. in Beijing, Berlin, Moscow and Paris.
