Many of Patagonia’s footwear products can live extended lives now that Portland-based Mountain Soles has started offering resoling services for certain Patagonia soles.

Mountain Soles was founded in 1979 and offers repair services for a variety of shoes, clothes, tents, backpacks and other items. Patagonia sought them out while looking for a way to help customers keep their footwear around longer.

Mountain Soles can resole Vibram EcoStep Multisport outsoles, EcoStep hiking outsoles, Skywalk natural latex small and large honeycomb outsoles (from left, below, photo courtesy Moutain Soles) and Vibram Idrogrip sticky rubber outsoles (not shown). Prices range from $50-$80 depending on the style of sole and construction.

Those soles are found on multiple types of shoes, and on some of Patagonia’s most popular items, said Matt Menely, Mountain Soles’ owner and president. “It covers a wide swath of their product offerings,” he said.

He said that previous to Mountain Soles’ partnership with Patagonia, some customers would call and inquire about resoling their Patagonia shoes, though Mountain Soles couldn’t fix them up since most soles are made specifically for certain shoes.

Now Mountain Soles has access to Patagonia’s soles, and Patagonia is helping out the resoling effort by giving the company a batch of soles for free.
